Watercolor for the Rest of Us (older youth to adult age group)

Would you like to learn about watercolor simply for relaxation and self expression? Are you looking for a place to connect with others while creating art in a space that doesn't worry about end results?

This watercolor class will focus on learning to appreciate the moment and see that there are no rules that must be followed. That way you can let your intuition guide you.

You will arrive to each class with an open mind ready to paint with beautiful colors, great brushes, and wonderful paper. Then, you can watch the watercolor painting create itself!

And maybe like me, you will find a medium that becomes a constant companion through all the ebbs and flows of life.

In this class you will explore the basics of drawing, learning to skillfully employ fundamental elements and techniques of drawing.

This class is a perfect fit for both the complete beginner and the advanced artist who want to improve their skill. We will build upon simple concepts such as accurate line drawings, and build to shading, and techniques such as grid drawing.

Faux Batik with Glue on Fabric (Sat, April 11, 2026)

Using glue and acrylic paint, create your own faux batik. This method is very accessible and is ideal for adults and teens.

During the first class, we'll draw out our designs on fabric and add the glue resist. During the second class, we'll paint our designs and you'll go home with your own small faux batik that you can hang or use in future sewing projects.

Once a month on a Friday night, come join us for Art Cafe!

Bring your friends, bring the fam, and choose from a menu of projects. We'll provide all the materials and the space to get messy!

There is a seating fee of $5 per person. Children 12 and under included with an adult. Prices will vary depending on the project, and range from about $5 to $25. Projects are self-led so guardians are responsible for kiddos, though our "waiter" will some guidance if requested.

You can choose from:

Glass Fusing:

Necklace Pendant....$15

3X3" Ornament or Sun Catcher......$20

4x4" Tile........$25

4x4" Night Light.......$35

Glass pieces will be fired for you in our kiln and you can pick up in about 2 weeks.

Paint-Your-Own-Pottery:

Choose from an array of items on our Paint-Your-Own-Pottery Cart. Prices range from $2-$25, and each item is marked. Your glazed pieces will be fired for you in our kiln and you can pick up in about 2 weeks.

Collage Grab Bags:

Each bag contains a rigid surface to adhere your collage to, and a variety of colored and patterned paper, magazine images, and doodads....$5

Mystery Maker Bags:

Each bag or box contains a variety of objects perfect for building a small sculptural piece....$8

Special Mother's Day “Unleash Your Inner Artist”

Mothers taking the class with a teen or adult son or daughter do the class for FREE!

Everyone can paint these “Hidden Falls” using the wet-on-wet oil painting technique made famous by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Bob Ross. Join Emergent Arts Gallery artist John Chiego for this fun and informative class introducing the oil painting technique that will allow you to unleash YOUR “Inner Artist”. All materials will be provided and no painting experience is necessary.

Come and unleash YOUR “Inner Artist” on Saturday, May 9th, from 12:30-3:30 at the Emergent Arts Gallery and Studio, 341-A Whittington Ave, in Hot Springs.

Campers will spend the weeks making a variety of art projects from drawing to painting, to pottery and weaving! Emergent Arts will supply one snack each day, all materials, and a camp tshirt. Each child is required to bring a bag lunch.
