Come learn the craft of Chinese Paper Cutting in celebration of the Lunar New Year! The lunar new year begins on February 10, 2024. Starting in January through the month of February, Emergent Arts and Taiwanese/Hot Springs artist, Bai Mros will bring you unique experiences to celebrate the occasion.

Paper cutting is a popular folk art in China and Taiwan. People use them as a decorative ornament around the house. Paper cuttings  symbolize good fortune and happiness, especially during the festivals and celebration events.

Students will learn a brief history of paper cutting, and can choose from a variety of patterns to cut their own dragon year themed piece. Students will also learn how to mount and frame their paper cutting to preserve it for years to come! Emergent Arts will supply materials, however, if you happen to have an exact-o knife for cutting paper, and a self-healing cutting mat and/or a cereal box, please bring in case of a larger class.

See our calendar for other events and package deals, if you want a Lunar New Year workshop pass that allows entry to several or all of our events throughout the months of January and February.

Other events include:

-Chinese calligraphy

-An introduction to Feng Shui

-The Tea Fest

-A Taiwanese meal prepared by Bai Mros

-Lantern painting

-The lighting of the lanterns in David Watkins park during the weekend of February 23,24,25

-An art show featuring sculptural art lanterns by local artists
